Losing a loved one is a very hard. When it's a parent, the mixture of emotions you experience at this time can be very overwhelming.

Parents are not only the people who brought you into this world, but they have been a constant in your life. A protector, your best friend, a source of wisdom, a shoulder to cry on, a safe harbor in times of trouble and arms to hold you filled with unconditional love.

Planning a funeral for a parent is a very daunting and emotional task. You want to celebrate their life in the most fitting and beautiful way possible, both from the perspective of what they meant to you, but also how they touched and impacted other people's lives.

Finding the right words to say in a eulogy or what verses to include in a funeral service can be difficult. Not all of us are writers or poets and when you have just lost a loved one just simple every day chores seem hard. Trying to write a poem or verse from scratch, especially at such a trying time can be near impossible.

Funeral poetry is a simple but powerful way to express the loss of someone dear to us, in a way which is not only fitting, but it also gives a great deal of comfort to all who hear it.

My friend's mother passed away recently, and she labored for many days trying to find the right words to include at the funeral service. After trying to write a poem of her own, she found a simple yet beautiful poem called "All Is Well" written by Henry Scott Holland which she read at the service.

There have been many beautiful poems written about the loss of a loved one and sometimes the easiest way to find the perfect poem or verse is to look through a collection of memorial poetry. Either you'll find a suitable poem which is fitting, or find one you can use as a framework, which can be modified for a more personal touch.

The death of a parent is an extremely trying time. Sometimes writing about a loved one can be therapeutic as you reflect on your own memories and shared experiences and can be helpful in dealing with and accepting the loss. Also reading memorial poetry that others have written can be calming and helpful at this difficult time.
