I. Commercial Photography the Holy Bible of Photography?
It is probably best defined as any photography in exchange for money. In this sense money is being paid for the subject of the photograph or the photograph itself. This includes wholesale, retail, and professional usage of photography.
Commercial Photography can be split into different categories:
Advertising Photography: Photographs are taken for the purpose to illustrate and/or sell a service or product. If you are an advertising agency, design firm or in-house corporate design team you might want to hire the best photographers available.
Fashion and Glamour Photography: This type of photography usually includes. Fashion photography emphasizes clothes or a specific product, glamour emphasizes the model. Glamour photography is popular in advertising and of course in special men's magazines. Models in glamour photography can be nude but this is not always the case.
Food Photography: Used for editorial, packaging or advertising. Food photography is similar to still life photography, but requires professional and special skills.
Photojournalism: Photographs made in this context are of documentay character and are used in news stories. There is no magazine or newspaper without photographs; it is an important element in expressing a certain communication.
Portrait and Wedding Photography: It is the most popular business for many photography studios or independent photographers. You definitely dont want that these photographs are not looking good! Its your important day!
Fine Art Photography: Photographs that are taken in an artistic way to bring upon the vision of the photographer's eye. They will be reproduced as postcards, posters, calendars and shown in exhibitions to the customer.
Landscape Photography: Photographs of different locations made to be sold as postcards, for calendars, as posters and for touristic purposes.
Wildlife Photography: All kinds of animals are captured in action and different motions. It is not the same as taking landscape photographs. Ther eis a big difference. Wildlife photography needs wide apertures to achieve a fast shutter speed, freeze the subject's motion, and blur the backgrounds. Landscape photography prefer only small apertures. In wildlife photography the usage of a long telephoto lense is a must and with this comes also the usage of a tripod (the longer the lens, the more difficult is it to handhold).
