Practicing guitar diligently is the key to success; every one that plays or wishes to play the guitar knows and must know it. It is unfortunate that despite knowing this, guitar players still go on practicing for years and yet see little to no improvement at all.
The reason for this is that, they go about it the wrong way. It is not a matter of training harder, but a matter of training smarter. Get this correct, and you will be on your way to successful guitar playing that will put a smile on your face.
Before you can start to rehearse your guitar playing in the right manner though; you first have to know the things that hinder you from doing that in the fist place. These things being: lack of discipline, little to no attention, and above all; no immediate or proper practice plan.
Let us look at these three things in a little more detail.
Lack of Self-Discipline
Discipline, defined as: activity, regimen or exercise that develops or improves a skill. From the above definition you can clearly see that without it, you might as well be watching television.
Take football players for instance, what would they happen if they had no discipline? Bet they would not be able to connect as a team, and we all know what that would spell out; LOSSES and more losses.
It is imperative for each play to be disciplined in his own respect in order for the entire team to work in sync.
Attention
Attention, attention, I have something to mention. This goes out to all the nations of guitar players that wish to succeed. In order for someone to be successful at anything, they need to pay particular attention to whatever they want to succeed at.
Let us say you want to prepare a certain dish for your dinner guests. If you don't know how to prepare the dish, you use a cook book right! You follow all the instructions paying particular attention to the timing, ingredients and amount of each ingredient.
The same is true for guitar playing. Every guitarist has to pay attention to whatever it is they are supposed to be doing and how to do it at all time.
Good Guitar Practice Plan
To start with, some guitar players don't even have a practice plan and those that do, have it all wrong. You would not expect an army to go to war without battle plans would you?
Definitely not, in the same way, when it comes to guitar practice, a comprehensive plan has to exist. It is your holy grail.
The reason for this is simple; when you have your entire plan led out before you; it makes your work cut out for you. You will know exactly what you need to be working on, when and how.
A healthy tip, get yourself a practice planner; it will help you a great deal.
Now you know some of the major pitfalls of practicing guitar. Go out and make the necessary changes and you will have made a step in the right direction.
