Free music is all over the internet now. You can have 1,000,000's of songs at your fingertips with Limewire and torrents, but all these places are illegal. Plenty of places offer free music downloads that are completely legal. Why not go with the legal option? That way you can get the music legally and still totally free.
Well in my experience these are the best free legal music download sites on the internet: Emusic and SpiralFrog.
SpiralFrog is a new innovative site that allows you to download free music paid for by advertising revenue. This site offers hundreds of thousands of songs including tons of just released songs. There is a catch to SpiralFrog, however. Since it is all paid for by advertising, the songs take a short but consistent amount of time to download. You can also only download one song at a time. This is so that you will look at more pages while you are waiting, which results in more ad revenue for them. All you have to do is create a free account and install their download manager and you can start downloading all the songs they have. This site is great if you wanna get a whole ton of songs or a very specific artist, but it might take a long time to get them.
Emusic is a site I discovered a few years ago and have been very satisfied with. They give you a free trial and let you have 25 songs completely free! The songs are downloaded in the mp3 format so they are compatible with every portable device. This site also requires you to install a download manager, but the songs can be downloaded as fast as your internet connection will let you. One really cool thing about this site is that once I canceled the free trial I thought I wouldn't get anymore free downloads. Little did I know, 3 months later Emusic sent me an email saying if I reactivated my account I could get another 50 songs for free! The catch for Emusic is that they do require a credit card. They will not charge your card though! All you need to do is get your songs and cancel your account in 2 weeks. I would recommend getting your songs in the first 4 or 5 days of your trial and then canceling. It shouldn't take too long to pick out your 25 songs from the 750,000 songs Emusic has! Also if you download Emusic's free toolbar you can get another 365 free songs!
