Therefore they are always trying to find a reason for celebration some cultural, social or historical events. Actually, Canadians enjoy festivals and carnivals all the year round.

On the first day of each year Canadians across the country participate in what is known as the New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim. This event involves a quick dip in the ocean or lake; quick because January is the coldest month of the year in all provinces of the country.

Chinese New Year is also celebrated across the country, and not just by Chinese Canadians. Vancouver Chinatown is known for hosting the loudest and most colorful of celebrations. Also on the west coast is the International Dragon Boat Festival in June. The Abbotsford International Air Show which takes place each year in August outside of Vancouver has been voted the world best and features everything from gliders to the Concorde.

The Calgary Stampede is an event to top all events. This 10 days festival dating from 1912 is know worldwide. The rodeo which is the highlight of the activities is the biggest and toughest in North America. A parade, nighttime shows, amusement rides and lots of cowboys and bucking broncos are served up at this western Canadian festival.

Each March brings with it excitement around the Caribou Carnival. Aside from the entertainment parade and igloo building contests, the Canadian Championship Dog Derby takes place. The three days race is approximately 240 kilometers long. The Winnipeg Folk Festival which is held annually for three days in the summer is the country biggest and best known. It features more than two hundred concerts, crafts and international cuisine.
