Veteran actor John Glover, who plays the irresistibly charming and scheming Lex Luthor on the CW series, Smallville, is currently on summer hiatus along with the rest of the cast, although he has confirmed that we will be seeing him next season. The 62-yeal old native of Salisbury, Maryland recently spoke with TVGuide about his return to theater, the secret to his successful portrayal of villains, and some juicy thoughts on the new season of Smallville.

While the sixth season finale left many unanswered questions and possibilities, Glover happily reassured fans that he is absolutely returning to the show. He did say, however, that he was rather disappointed about Martha Kents (Annette OTooles character) departure from Smallville to go to Washington, D.C.

I'm going to miss Martha! There's nothing to be done... unless I write her a love letter. I don't know if they'll deal with it on the show but [Annette O'Toole's] contract's up and I don't think she's coming back, Glover said, although there are rumors that she may return for occasional appearances. The actor also discussed his characters apparent turn for the better in last years show. When asked if he was turning over a new leaf and changing for the good after doing his bit to protect Clark and all, Glover had this to say: Not completely. Remember, how many fathers out there have given their son shock treatment and insist it's for his own good? As long as Lionel stays interesting. The [writers] attempted to make him good before, but it didnt work. That's one of the challenges of Smallville. I don't think they thought it would be on this long. They kind of planned on four years, the high-school years.

John Glover is currently in the Broadway musical spoof The Drowsy Chaperone, where he plays the nameless Man in Chair - a lovable loser who can hardly leave his apartment also the narrator of the show.
